가족관계의 등록 등에 관한 법률 제86조(사망신고의 장소)

사망의 신고는 사망지ㆍ매장지 또는 화장지에서 할 수 있다. 다만, 사망지가 분명하지 아니한 때에는 사체가 처음 발견된 곳에서, 기차나 그 밖의 교통기관 안에서 사망이 있었을 때에는 그 사체를 교통기관에서 내린 곳에서, 항해일지를 비치하지 아니한 선박 안에서 사망한 때에는 그 선박이 최초로 입항한 곳에서 할 수 있다.
