동물보호법 제88조(동물보호관)

① 농림축산식품부장관(대통령령으로 정하는 소속 기관의 장을 포함한다), 시ㆍ도지사 및 시장ㆍ군수ㆍ구청장은 동물의 학대 방지 등 동물보호에 관한 사무를 처리하기 위하여 소속 공무원 중에서 동물보호관을 지정하여야 한다.

② 제1항에 따른 동물보호관(이하 "동물보호관"이라 한다)의 자격, 임명, 직무 범위 등에 관한 사항은 대통령령으로 정한다.

③ 동물보호관이 제2항에 따른 직무를 수행할 때에는 농림축산식품부령으로 정하는 증표를 지니고 이를 관계인에게 보여주어야 한다.

④ 누구든지 동물의 특성에 따른 출산, 질병 치료 등 부득이한 사유가 있는 경우를 제외하고는 제2항에 따른 동물보호관의 직무 수행을 거부ㆍ방해 또는 기피하여서는 아니 된다.
