축산법 제2조(정의)

1. "가축"이란 사육하는 소ㆍ말ㆍ면양ㆍ염소[유산양(乳山羊: 젖을 생산하기 위해 사육하는 염소)을 포함한다. 이하 같다]ㆍ돼지ㆍ사슴ㆍ닭ㆍ오리ㆍ거위ㆍ칠면조ㆍ메추리ㆍ타조ㆍ꿩, 그 밖에 대통령령으로 정하는 동물(動物) 등을 말한다.

1의2. "토종가축"이란 제1호의 가축 중 한우, 토종닭 등 농림축산식품부령으로 정하는 품종의 가축으로서 예로부터 우리나라 고유의 유전특성과 순수혈통을 유지하며 사육되어 외래종과 분명히 구분되는 특징을 지니는 것으로 제9조의2에 따라 인정된 가축을 말한다.

2. "종축"이란 가축개량 및 번식에 활용되는 가축으로서 농림축산식품부령으로 정하는 기준에 해당하는 가축을 말한다.

3. "축산물"이란 가축에서 생산된 고기ㆍ젖ㆍ알ㆍ꿀과 이들의 가공품ㆍ원피[가공 전의 가죽을 말하며, 원모피(原毛皮)를 포함한다]ㆍ원모, 뼈ㆍ뿔ㆍ내장 등 가축의 부산물, 로얄제리ㆍ화분ㆍ봉독ㆍ프로폴리스ㆍ밀랍 및 수벌의 번데기를 말한다.

5. "종축업"이란 종축을 사육하고, 그 종축에서 농림축산식품부령으로 정하는 번식용 가축 또는 씨알을 생산하여 판매(다른 사람에게 사육을 위탁하는 것을 포함한다)하는 업을 말한다.

6. "부화업"이란 닭, 오리 또는 메추리의 알을 인공부화 시설로 부화시켜 판매(다른 사람에게 사육을 위탁하는 것을 포함한다)하는 업을 말한다.

8. "가축사육업"이란 판매할 목적으로 가축을 사육하거나 젖ㆍ알ㆍ꿀을 생산하는 업을 말한다.

8의2. "축사"란 가축을 사육하기 위한 우사ㆍ돈사ㆍ계사 등의 시설과 그 부속시설로서 대통령령으로 정하는 것을 말한다.

9. "가축거래상인"이란 소ㆍ돼지ㆍ닭ㆍ오리ㆍ염소, 그 밖에 대통령령으로 정하는 가축을 구매하거나 그 가축의 거래를 위탁받아 제3자에게 알선ㆍ판매 또는 양도하는 행위(이하 "가축거래"라 한다)를 업(業)으로 하는 자로서 제34조의2에 따라 등록한 자를 말한다.

10. "국가축산클러스터"란 국가가 축산농가ㆍ축산업과 관련되어 있는 기업ㆍ연구소ㆍ대학 및 지원시설을 일정 지역에 집중시켜 상호연계를 통한 상승효과를 만들어 내기 위하여 형성한 집합체를 말한다.
