제주4ㆍ3사건 진상규명 및 희생자 명예회복에 관한 특별법 제2조(정의)

1. "제주4ㆍ3사건"이란 1947년 3월 1일을 기점으로 1948년 4월 3일 발생한 소요사태 및 1954년 9월 21일까지 제주도에서 발생한 무력충돌과 그 진압과정에서 주민들이 희생당한 사건을 말한다.

2. "희생자"란 제주4ㆍ3사건으로 인하여 사망하거나 행방불명된 사람, 후유장애가 남은 사람 또는 수형인(受刑人)으로서 제5조제2항제2호에 따라 제주4ㆍ3사건의 희생자로 결정된 사람을 말한다.

3. "유족"이란 희생자의 배우자(사실상의 배우자를 포함한다. 이하 같다)와 직계존비속을 말한다. 다만, 배우자와 직계존비속이 없는 경우에는 희생자의 형제자매를 말하고, 형제자매가 없는 경우에는 4촌 이내의 방계혈족으로서 희생자의 제사를 치르거나 무덤을 관리하는 사람 중에서 제5조제2항제2호에 따라 유족으로 결정된 사람을 말한다.
